The KUGLER Drum Lathe TDM-1200 is a multi-axis system with aerostatic bearings which was specially developed for ultraprecision turning of optical microstructures on rollers with the use of diamond tools. The center distance on this model amounts to 1200 mm.
Monocrystalline diamond tools with determined geometric cutting edges produce smooth optical surfaces as well as annular and helical groove structures on work pieces of non-ferrous metal or with an electroless nickel coating.
An optional Fast Tool Servo allows for the turning of uneven structures. The system fulfills the highest demands for roughness and geometrical accuracy (concentricity, diameter variation, cylindricity).
The TDM-1200 is characterized by solid granite construction, vibration isolation by means of an air friction damping system, aerostatic rotary bearings in the headstock and tailstock as well as aerostatic mounting of the carriage assembly (Z axis).
The Z and Y axis is outfitted with high-definition incremental measuring systems and special direct drives for positioning within the submicrometer range. This guarantees the highest accuracy in high precision chip removal.
A wide selection of accessory components completes the system, such as hydrostatic axes for tool rotation, Fast Tool Servo (FTS), tool setting microscopes, and optical sensors for the measurement of distances and diameters.
