typical test documentation
A simple flat mirror - or 68 individual processing steps, safely carried out for use in space.
Components for a distance sensor for space vehicles: A sophisticated heat treatment process, suitable protective surface coatings as well as a gentle milling procedure allow these sensor mirrors with a long-term stability to be used even in a wide temperature range as to be expected in space. Here the advantages of the ISO quality management are evident: Each processing step is comprehensively documented and approved by the customer.
Only by a multiple thermal treatment (which among other things includes the use of liquid nitrogen), the excellent surface flatness of 0.3 micrometer could be maintained, in spite of the material which tends to deformation. The heat treatment method was especially developed by KUGLER for the respective order.
A typical test documentation is shown in picture 3, the surface flatness proof in the interferogram picture 4; The picture 1 shows the diamond machined surface of the mirror; the picture 2 to the right shows the honeycomb structure, which was milled out to save weight.
