Today's injection molding technology requires more high-quality and economic tool manufacturing. Tools consist of a multiplicity of single mechanical components. In particular the cavity regarding the surface quality is to be given the largest attention.
It is in this context that a demand for automated and flexible procedures for manufacturing 3D-surfaces arises. Usually the cavities are manufactured by removal processes and subssequent complex and cost-intensive surface structuring techniques and manual repolishing. The hybrid combination of the manufacturing processes is a new approach to avoid the environmental impact of grinding and polishing wastes and chemicals, to increase the reproducibility of the processing and to save manufacturing costs.
